Graphics

You like my word cloud? I do. Sweet to see the popular words of my story pop with power.  Getting the shape of the gun was not hard at all. What was hard was getting good pictures and lining the table up for the mass shooters. I still dont like the way it turned out.

I got in to deep

after months of deeply going in the research and interviews about banning guns from the mentally ill, I found my self being bias.  Big thanks to Baltrip for pointing it out and setting me on the right track.  As a journalist you have to watch out for getting to one sided. You can have believes and morals but let your reader have there own too.

off the record interview

The interview with Karen Ingram was odd. Karen new 4 people that killed themselves and when I asked to her replay how she knew that they had problems she would say I dont want to talk about that. So after the interview I asked off the record and wow I really wish she would have let me write about it. Some time I wish people would be brave and tell the stories for the record. I could have made a lot more out of her if she would have.

The Doctor

The Interview with KSU Dr. Lambert was very cool until I lost track where my questions were going and she let me know how bad that was. Talk about embarrassing. I made sure after that I was full prepared and rest of the interviews when so much better.

Gun dealers won't talk

So trying to find a local gun dealer to speak on the topic of selling guns was the hardest interview to find. I was rejected by 2 pawn shops and dick sporting goods. Luckily I found someone that would anonymously talk to me. The coolest part was when I asked if they like selling guns they told me that they wish they didnt have too.  Also interesting note you can be turn down to by a gun just for acting "iffy"

Mentally ill guns

Welcome to my blogger page where I will be reveling my tour of discovery on the debate for the gun ban for the mentally ill. My name is Jared Clark and I am a mass-communication major at Kansas State University. I am currently researching the debate on gun control.  This was not my first topic to write about but it is a topic that is relevant and will continue to be the top stories in the states for 2013.  Personally I am scared of guns. I am a even scared to own a gun for worries would I do with it.  However This does not mean I am for or against gun control.  It is just I personally do not want to own a gun.
If you have never seen the news or kept up with US politics then you may not know that there is a push for keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.  This push stems from the latest school shooting that happened at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut on December 14 2012.  There is strong opinion that the shooter Adam Lanza that killed 26 people (of which 20 were children) was Mentally ill. The Beleife is that if we can keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill we can save lives.  There is strong correlation of mass killings and mentall illness. The othter major news stories most have heard of include the Colorado theater shooter James Holmes, who killed 12 and injured 70 and the Columbine High School Massacre of April 20 1999 where two senior, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 13 students and injured 21 students. These are the major cases where the question of keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.
So if you ask anyone "Should the mentally ill have guns?" you will get the answer "no".
